Wagering practice – Hot Final Jeopardy! sandwiches
Today’s scenario is in honor of Battle of the Decades candidate Ryan Chaffee, he of “WHAT IS HOT PASTRAMI SANDWICHES?” fame. This comes from his fourth game, in which he’s locked in a high-scoring battle with gun-slinging Matt.

Similar to the previous Friday’s teaser, first has exactly twice second. This time, however, third is in play, which might have some effect on wagering.
What should each player do if he or she finds the Daily Double on the last clue of Double Jeopardy!?

- (1/8) Here’s our starting situation.

- (2/8) Jim has no way to put himself into contention, so he should just stay alive for Final. (Howard will have to wager everything.)

- (3/8) Howard could wager everything, bringing himself up to a tie at risk of missing Final …

- (4/8) … or he could wager 1,500, putting himself at 2/3 Ingrid’s score.

- (5/8) If he’s wrong, he won’t win, but he’ll still have second locked up.

- (6/8) If Ingrid gets it right, she’ll lock it up. So she should focus on what will happen if she’s wrong. Wagering 2,250 would put her in a 2/3 situation with Howard, increasing her probability of winning.

- (7/8) She could also wager 4,500, putting herself into a tie scenario. This would result in fewer possible ways to win.
