Final Jeopardy! wagering analysis:
Monday, May 16, 2016 (Power Players #1)
[php snippet=65]
We’ve got a week filled with Power Players. They might have the political know-how, but how many of them will wager properly?
A very good game to kick things off – and for the first time in many weeks, we have a three-way battle heading into Final.
On the video I discuss how much I hate the words “interesting” and “unchurched”, along with some abridged calculations.

Chuck Todd |
S.E. Cupp |
Jonathan Franzen |
| 12,200 | 13,200 | 14,800 |
| Samaritan Inns | No Kid Hungry | American Bird Conservancy |
An apt Final Jeopardy! category for this evening:
| POLITICAL TERMS |
This one should be a slam dunk for at least two of these three, right?
Keep in mind the winner’s charity is guaranteed $50,000, while those of the runners-up will receive a minimum of $10,000. That could lead to more-aggressive wagers tonight.
Combined analysis
| Chuck |
S.E. |
Jonathan | |||
| 12,200 | 13,200 | 14,800 | |||
| FIRST-ORDER | SECOND-ORDER | COVER ZERO | |||
| min | max | min | max | min | max |
| 5,200 | 9,000 | 11,200* | 11,600 | ||
| 3,200 | 10,000 | ||||
| 1,000 | 1,600 | ||||
Chuck might be tempted to go for everything to maximize his upside potential, but I believe the possible extra $3,200 is not worth the risk of missing out on $50k on a tough clue.
What actually happened
| Chuck | S.E. | Jonathan | |||
| 12,200 | 13,200 | 14,800 | |||
| 12,200 | 3,200 | 13,201 | |||
| 0 | 10,000 | 1,599 | |||
| min | max | min | max | min | max |
| 5,201 | 8,999 | 13,200 | 11,601 | ||
| 3,201 | 9,999 | ||||
| 999 | 1,599 | ||||
And it was a tough clue… and S.E.’s savvy wager (I’ll let Alex get away with that tomorrow) gives her charity the big check.
