After tonight’s quarterfinal, our semifinal roster will be much clearer. Will Kerry, Andrew, or Elliot – or perhaps two or all three? – be playing next week?
Note: for some reason, my video – in which I go on a rant about people berating contestants on social media – didn’t upload properly the first time. Sorry about that!
Things are looking good for Kerry and Andrew. Not so much for Elliot, who had some serious trouble with the buzzer. He did a great job getting out of that early hole, though, and I know for a fact he had fun both taping and watching.

Congratulations to Kerry – and also to Andrew, who clinches a wild card spot, along with Vaughn Winchell. Kristin Sausville gets bumped off the list and is sitting in the “alternate” position, a.k.a. the worst place in the world to be on the second day of taping (I say this from experience).

Two questions on the TOC format:
1) How are the contestants grouped in the first & second rounds?
2) In the first round, do the “losers” know each others scores as it pertains to the wild-card? Seems to me it would be an advantage for the players on Thursday and Friday if they know the wild-card score that they have to beat to get to the next round.
#1: In the semifinals, the only known/widely believed rule is that there are no quarterfinal rematches. Other than that, it’s at the whim of the producers/contestant coordinators. (There may be other principles; note that this year, the four players who won more than five games were kept apart, as were the four women who qualified.)
#2: If you haven’t played yet, you are sequestered in the green room until called to play. Those in the later quarterfinals have no advance knowledge of the scoring in games that have been taped already.
