I ask just one question on tonight’s video, and as you might have guessed, it goes out to one of the challengers.
First of all: I certainly didn’t see that True Daily Double coming out of Dennis.
Trailing by 1,000 with about a third of the board remaining in the second round, he bet it all on a $1600 answer in a category from which we’d only seen one clue. In fact, in a surprising move, the New York Times clue of the day was this very DD (it’s usually Final Jeopardy!):

Now, if Dennis is a movie buff, I’m all for that play – but I was particularly surprised he did that after his Penultimate Wager two nights ago.

All right, as for the question, the gears started turning during the interviews, then sped up after “Is that the black-foot ferret?” and the post-miss thumb’s up.
Here’s that response that cemented Becky’s place in Jeopardy! lore (and in many hearts beyond my own, I’m sure). Special thanks to the J! Facebook page for spoiling this one earlier this afternoon.

I’ll be checking Breitbart and The Blaze later tonight to see what our right-wing friends have to say about this. [ETA: here’s The Blaze’s take] [ETA (Oct 27): here’s Breitbart’s take]
What actually happened

Well, that was a fun week – and Michael Bilow and Elliot Yates can breathe a sigh of relief. In fact, Dennis’s loss clinches a TOC berth for Catherine Hardee.

In the 1989 Tournament Of Champions, 5-time champ Brian Wangsgard used an alternative phrasing on a Final Jeopardy! response, by saying “Is it Telegraph?”, which was correct anyway, and he advanced to the semi-finals, while Tom Cubbage, who went on to win the tournament, had enough money for a wild-card.
