Wagering practice – Go big and go home?
Our champion is Jason Keller, in his seventh of ten regular games.

Thoughts on Friday’s scenario:
- (1/7) What should each player wager should he or she find the Daily Double on the last clue of Double Jeopardy! with these scores?
- (2/7) Charlotte will want to get “out of the red” to have a shot in Final, so she’ll need to wager at least 1,001.
- (3/7) No matter what Brandon wagers, an incorrect response will lock him out of contention. He might as well wager everything – he won’t necessarily need to get Final right to win, nor will he have to depend on Abby responding incorrectly.
- No matter what Abby wagers, if she’s right, she’ll lock Brandon out. The best wager is 2,500. If she’s wrong, she’ll position herself such that Brandon has exactly 2/3 of her score, and both will need to wager to tie.
- (5/7) Here is the only scenario in which Abby could win if she gets it wrong and Brandon gets it right, and they both wager optimally.
- (6/7) If Abby wagers 5,000, she puts herself into a tie with Brandon. Both will have a choice of wagers: everything or nothing. This is not as good a scenario as the 2/3 scenario above.
- (7/7) In theory, Abby could also wager 7,500, putting herself at exactly 1/2 of Brandon’s score. But then she’d have to get FJ! right – and as we’ve seen, there are other scenarios in which she can win if she gets FJ! wrong, so this is not optimal.

Now that the scenario has been discussed, I thought I’d mention an SNL Celebrity Jeopardy! skit that had a contestant wager $0 (IIRC it was the clue where they asked “Name This Continent” Asia). Obviously that’s not allowed on the real show.
