Daily analysis, Wednesday, December 18

Our champion has shown some wagering chops. Will we keep the ball rolling tonight?

Matthew had a stronger game today, finishing the Double Jeopardy! round with over 10,000. He’s smack in the middle of a challenger sandwich, though, putting him in rough position heading into Final.

Matthew Church: 10,800
Curtis Morales: 11,800
Varun Shekhar: 9,500

This situation tends to be deadly for the second-place player. He has to wager a ton, meaning he’ll need to get it right and have first place miss. There’s no other path to victory.

Curtis should wager 9,800 to lock out Matthew.

Matthew has to go for at least 8,200 to keep Varun at bay, and no more than 8,800 to stay above Curtis if they both miss.

Varun, with a category like this, looks to be in the driver’s seat in some ways. He should wager no more than 6,900 to stay above Matthew if they both miss, and at least 2,300 to cover zero wagers by both other gentlemen.

For the second day in a row, great success! Nice work, guys. Tough luck, Curtis and Matthew. Varun’s back tomorrow after his good piece of wagering.

Final Jeopardy! wagers December 18, 2013

The Final Jeopardy! clue for December 18, 2013:

CHILDREN’S LITERATURE
JOY, NELLIE & ARANEA ARE 3 OF THE MANY CHILDREN OF THIS TITLE CHARACTER

Correct response: Who is Charlotte?

My guess heading into this was the clue would be either really easy or really hard. It turned out to be really hard; personally, I got stuck on one bad-sounding option (one who “had so many children she didn’t know what to do”) and couldn’t shake it. Varun, being in third place in a tight game, was the beneficiary.
