Final Jeopardy! wagering analysis:
Tuesday, May 17, 2016 (Power Players #2)

previous week same week following week

We had an unusually competitive Power Players match-up to kick things off. How would things go Tuesday?

Back to what many of us expected: 20 clues left on the board, for one.

Lara’s in the lead heading into Final:

Anderson

Cooper

Lara

Logan

Michael

Steele

4,000 5,800 1,600
Spike’s K9 Fund Committee to Protect Journalists Catholic Charities Mona Center

Normally, Michael would be out of contention, but you never know how these players will wager.

Tonight’s Final Jeopardy! category is:

COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD

Combined analysis

Anderson
Lara
Michael
4,000 5,800 1,600
FIRST-ORDER SECOND-ORDER COVER ZERO
min max min max min max
400 2,200 2,600
3,200* 1,400

Lara and Anderson have some mind games to play. If Anderson thinks Lara will go big, he should go small. Lara might go small in response, to which Anderson should go big. And we’re back to the baseline.

What actually happened

Anderson Lara Michael
4,000 5,800 1,600
3,998 4,000 600
7,998 9,800 1,000
min max min max
399 2,201 2,599
4,000 1,399

Despite her win, Lara gets the “white” wager because she let Michael back into contention. Had the right/wrong answers been totally flipped, Michael would have won! (Also, in part because she studied the wrong wagering website.)

In any event, congrats to her and to CPJ for their $50,000 win. Anderson is now 2-for-4 in his appearances – that’s three more games than most Jeopardy! contestants.

Really looking forward to Louis C.K. on Wednesday!

The Final Jeopardy! clue

Anderson, Lara and Michael. Who are 3 people that would never qualify for the real Jeopardy game?
