Fritz Holznagel on Jeopardy! buzzer strategy

During a trip to Boston a few weeks ago, I met up with Fritz Holznagel, the winner of the 1995 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions. We spoke at length about his experience in several tournaments and his career as a writer.

We also talked about something to which he devoted several months of study: the optimal technique for using the signaling device. In preparation for his Battle of the Decades appearance, Fritz tested a multitude of arm positions, fingers, caffeinated products, and more to determine what combination would give him an edge.

Fritz wrote about his process and his results in the book “Secrets of the Buzzer”, available at Amazon and other electronic retailers. In this video, he talks about a few of his findings.

I’m in the process of editing my full interview with Fritz and hope to post the full video soon. It was a lot of fun to chat with him!Fritz buzz cover2

I wound up holding it with both hands. Otherwise I would shake uncontrollably!
