There’s a familiar face on tonight’s Jeopardy! – and I’m not talking about Fred!

That would be Mara, who has been a familiar presence on my social media for a long time. Congrats on making it to the big show!

Here are our scores heading into Final:

Fred

Vaughn (4x)

Phyllis

Kidd

Mara

Apostol

11,600 8,400 10,400

Of course, with these scores, wagering skills might come in pretty handy for Mara. And Phyllis. And Fred. But Fred could throw a real monkey wrench into proper strategy.

Tonight’s Final Jeopardy! category is:

BRITISH MUSICAL THEATER

I’ll come back with a written analysis; in the meantime, you can watch the video.

What actually happened

Fred Phyllis Mara
11,600 8,400 10,400
5,000 3,201 6,401
16,600 11,601 16,801
min max min max min max
9,201 4,001 4,399 6,401 7,999
6,801 3,201 3,599 1,201 1,999
1,199 1,999

Fred’s wagering approach caught up with him, but with four wins under his belt, he might be in the mix for the Tournament of Champions.

And although I rarely play favorites, I hope he makes it – he’s got a solid knowledge base and a great personality. Nice run, Fred!

The Final Jeopardy! clue

A CRITIC SAID, “I DOUBT IF THERE IS A SINGLE JOKE IN” THIS 1885 WORK “THAT FITS THE JAPANESE. BUT ALL THE JOKES…FIT THE ENGLISH”

Correct response: Show

  1. After my abysmal performance on the test tonight, looks like I will be watching and learning from your site for another year. Keep up the good work, it’s starting to sink in

  2. Pacific Overtures? Off by almost a century…And Rodgers & Hammerstein? You’re thinking of South Pacific. Looks like someone needs a Stephen Sondheim tutorial, along with one for Gilbert & Sullivan.

What do you think?
