Episode VII of Star Wars opens today. Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure out how to make a light saber on iMovie, so this image I edited will have to suffice. (Oh, and I used Yoda colors for the wagers.)

Close game between first and second. With good wagering, Tiombi’s out of luck tonight.

Tiombi

Prince

Claudia

Corriere

Mark

Blankenship

3,600 9,800 10,200

This is a Shore’s Conjecture situation; Claudia can safely cover Mark’s zero wager while keeping Tiombi locked out.

Our Final Jeopardy! category is:

LANDMARKS

First-order calculations

Mark has to go big, while Claudia should keep it small to stay above Tiombi.

Second-order calculations

Some mind games are possible here, of course…

2,800 800 1,800 9,400

Then we add a dollar to the minimum wagers, and subtract a dollar from the maximum wagers.

What actually happened

Tiombi Claudia Mark
3,600 9,800 10,200
3,000 2,000 9,800
600 7,800 400
min max min max min max
2,799 801 1,799 9,401
2,599 2,201 2,999
8,999 399

Tiombi overwagered by 200, but Mark’s extra 399 cost him $1,000. A good wager by Claudia, although it doesn’t take into consideration the possibility that Mark wagers the “Shoretegic” 2,200 or 2,201.

The last time we had a four-time winner on stage in regular play was October 14, when Matt Jackson lost his fourteenth game. That’s 36 games, although we still have a ways to go to reach the leaderboard there (if “leaderboard” is the correct term).
