I have a feeling our players this week ate a little bit too much turkey at Thanksgiving.

Or, for today, maybe just at the commissary at lunch. Food comas have felled many a champion, and it appears to be affecting all three of our players.

Joyce

Hshieh

Jarrett

Cabell

Kelly

Wright

800 3,000 4,200

I mentioned in tonight’s video that Kelly was wearing a lucky Washington Capitals jersey. Turns out I was slightly off: it’s actually a shirt from a Caps fan club, featuring an 8-bit Alex Ovechkin.

Tonight’s Final Jeopardy! category is:

SONGS FROM MUSICALS

First-order calculations

If Kelly goes for the lockout, Jarrett should go small…

Joyce
Jarrett
Kelly
800 3,000 4,200
FIRST-ORDER SECOND-ORDER COVER ZERO
min max min max min max
600 1,800

Second-order calculations

…but if Jarrett goes small, Kelly could also go small and guarantee a win; Jarrett might consider going for broke (although I don’t recommend this, because it’s rare a leader in this situation will give up the lead.)

Joyce
Jarrett
Kelly
800 3,000 4,200
FIRST-ORDER SECOND-ORDER COVER ZERO
min max min max min max
600 1,800
1,800* 600

Zero wagers

Score differences:
Kelly and Jarrett: 1,200
Kelly and Joyce: 3,400
Jarrett and Joyce: 2,200

Joyce
Jarrett
Kelly
800 3,000 4,200
FIRST-ORDER SECOND-ORDER COVER ZERO
min max min max min max
600 1,800 2,400
2,400* 600

Then we add a dollar to the minimum wagers, and subtract a dollar from the maximum wagers.

What actually happened

Joyce Jarrett Kelly
800 3,000 4,200
800 1,201 2,500
1,600 1,799 6,700
min max min max
599 1,801 2,399
3,000 599

A couple of problems here. Jarrett’s wager doesn’t cover the “small” range out of Kelly, and Kelly’s wager doesn’t take Jarrett’s potential bare-minimum wager into account. She would have lost by $99 had she missed.

No matter; a win is a win, and tomorrow is another day!
