How many of you were confused by the return of Alex tonight? The Final Wager – April 22, 2015

The name, anyway. Apparently, Alex Schraff was at the previous taping session, but was unable to play Alex Jacob because they have the same first name. The challenger could have gone by a pseudonym, but I can count a couple reasons he wouldn’t want to do that.

Were they to meet in the Tournament of Champions, something would have to give. Given these scores, though, that’s not going to happen.

Apologies to Michael; I originally listed last night’s returning champ, Todd Lovell, at the first podium here.

Tonight’s Final Jeopardy! category is:

AMERICAN POETRY

On at least three occasions, two players with the same name faced off. (Updated with #3 thanks to Shane in the comments)

  1. 1985 TOC QF: Paul Boymel and Staff Sergeant Paul Croshier
  2. 1988 Teen Final: David Graham and David “DJ” Javerbaum
  3. 1996 TOC Final: Michael Daunt and Michael “Mike” Dupee
  4. 2008 Teen Final: Rachel Horn and Rachel “Steve” Cooke

One of my favorite Final Jeopardy! clues ever is very similar to tonight’s answer. You can find it here; Brad Rutter needed to get it right to advance to the Finals of his TOC.
