Greetings from Harvard Yard! We’re kicking off the new year with a four-time champion. Can he break the Julia Collins Hex?The Final Wager – January 1, 2015

Thanks to a solid DD get, he’s got his hand firmly on the reins. Unlike some previous games, he will win on a triple stumper.

Vaughn Winchell Page Krugman Elan Sherbill
19,400 12,400 12,200

Let’s see how he feels about:

TELEVISION

Video will be up tomorrow.

First-order calculations

Second doubles up

If Page doubles her score, she’ll have 24,800. To cover her, Vaughn will need to wager 5,400.

An incorrect response with that wager will leave Vaughn with 14,000.

Both Page and Elan must respond correctly to have a shot, so all-in is the way to go.

Zero wagers

Given that he has a crush situation, Vaughn has a little extra breathing room, so he could wager up to his lead.

What actually happened

And there goes the Hex! Congrats to our first qualifier for the Tournament of Champions. We’ll see if he can break our megachamp drought tomorrow.

I’m unsure how the clue fits under the category of “television”, though.

The Final Jeopardy! clue

Correct response: Show

See my 12/23 comment for details. In the last 10 games (counting tonight) we have the following result: In 4 cases all three got it right = easy. 4 cases of 1 right + 2 cases of 2 right = 6 ok and 0 case of 0 right = hard. So that’s a “final jeopardy degree of difficulty = just right” score of 60%.

We are back below 70% and it has been a long time since we have had a “hard” FJ..
