Daily analysis, Tuesday, July 1

We’ve got a good situation tonight, so let’s jump right in.The Final Wager - July 1, 2014

Shloka and Howard are duking it out for the top slot, and it’s Shloka by a nose. Get ready for some mind games.

Jill Rowley: 8,800
Shloka Ananthanarayanan: 20,400
Howard Ray: 19,600

The Final Jeopardy! category: THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

Let’s start with the fundamentals.

Basic strategy – first vs. second

Shloka should wager 18,800(!).

To stay above her, Howard can wager up to 18,000, and Jill should cap her wager at 7,200.

Basic strategy – second vs. third

Howard can wager up to 2,000 to stay above Jill.

Basic strategy – Rule #3

Howard should wager no more than 10,800 so as not to fall below Jill’s pre-Final total; he can also wager at least 800 or 1,600 to cover a zero or “unsafe” wager by Shloka.

Since Howard can wager to both (1) cover a zero by Shloka and (2) stay above Jill regardless of what happens, we have an instance of Shore’s Conjecture.

This happens to be the Strong Form, since a proper wager by Shloka will put her below Jill’s pre-Final total. will put her below Jill’s pre-Final total.

Mind games

If Howard wagers 2,000, Shloka could wager 1,200. In response, Howard might wager no more than 400.

If Jill wagers that 7,200 maximum, Howard can stay above her with a 3,600 wager. If he’s right with that wager, Shloka could cover him with a wager of 2,800.

Finally, if Howard goes for 10,800, Shloka can wager 10,000.

In any event, I prefer an all-in wager out of Jill, since it’s unlikely both first and second will fall below her on a double miss.

What actually happened

Nice wager out of Howard; the other two weren’t bad, either.

Great analysis. Have your considered uploading the full episode to YouTube. I’ve been waiting 2 weeks for someone to upload July 1, 2014 episode. Mr. Yeu was pretty reliable but must be on vacation. Would it be inconvenient for you, since you spend time on the final wager analysis?
    Thanks.
