Daily analysis, Monday, March 24

Now that we’ve had the weekend off to ride actual carousels and whatnot, we’re back in the saddle with our eighth consecutive one-day champ. Will Joe defend? The Final Wager - March 24, 2014

In case you missed my “Carousel of Champions” video, have a gander.

Joe put it all on the line halfway through DJ!, and missed – but made a great comeback. Our scores, please:

Joe Morse: 6,400
Nancy Akerman: 13,200
Derek Arnold: 11,800

The Final Jeopardy! category: HISTORIC NICKNAMES

Surprisingly, the wagering should be straightforward – if you assume everyone will be rational.

Nancy should wager 10,400 to guarantee herself a victory.

Derek needs to risk at least 2,800 to cover an unsafe wager by Nancy, and no more than 5,400 so as not to fall below Joe.

Joe, assuming Derek wagers properly, will need to get it right to win, so he should just wager everything.

Now, Joe does have this smaller wager of 0 – 3,600, but it doesn’t make any sense. As he did during the game, Joe grabbed the bull by the horns, and he made the right play, even though he would have won with an incorrect bet. He should be proud of the way he took on this match.

The Final Jeopardy! clue for March 24, 2014 (HISTORIC NICKNAMES):
