Daily analysis, October 11 – another Friday geography category

I’m really excited about the response to my video recapping Wednesday’s game.Keith excited blackwhite

Unlike Thursday’s game, all three players are in contention going into Final Jeopardy!.

William Bernhardt: 11,600
Julie Huffman: 6,200
Greg Buzzard: 13,000

Leader Greg needs to bet large to cover an all-in by William: at least 10,200, leaving him with 2,800 if he’s wrong. William will need to wager at most 8,800 to stay above that total. He should also wager at least 1,400 to cover a zero wager by Greg.

William will need to wager 800 to cover a double-up by Julie, but since he’s already wagering at least 1,400, he’s set there. He should also restrict his maximum to 5,400 so as not to fall below Julie’s score should he answer incorrectly. Julie, to cover William’s score after an incorrect response and an 800 wager, will need to put at least 4,600 on the line.

Finally, to stay above Greg’s incorrect total, Julie needs to wager at most 3,400. But this doesn’t work against William, so she should err on the side of aggression. Better to play to win and drop to third than to play for second!

The Final Jeopardy! clue for October 11, 2013:

WORLD CAPITALS
IT’S THE CAPITAL CITY OF THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT BORDERS BOTH THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA AND THE BLACK SEA

Correct response: What is Ankara, Turkey?
